Although titled dark matter and dark energy, this book only covers these topics in the final chapters. Prior to this, it gives the reader an in-depth exploration into particle physics. Starting with simple ideas such as the quark and baryon, it goes on to the identification of particles and gives the reader the tools required to find unknowns within some simple interactions.
Focusing primarily on particle accelerators and event analysis, it provides an insight into the real world of particle physics although at a very basic level. Aimed at physics undergraduates, I found it challenging yet managed to follow the majority of the topics covered as well as the mathematics introduced.
I would definitely recommend this book to any A level student who wants an interesting yet challenging book which goes well beyond what is required on the A level course.
